BVQ_11. TYPORG2
Do/did you work for a public or a private employer?
(Please tick one box only.)
COMMENT ON TYPORG2: TYPORG2 deals with the main ownership status of the organisation or firm the respondent is working for. Identifying the main ownership status of an organisation or firm will be easiest for a respondent by being asked about his/ her actual employer. A 'public employer' includes any of state, government, public administration, local government, army, police, juridical/ legal system, civil service, municipality or federation of municipalities, and local communities, as well as other types of organisations where the main owner is the state: publicly owned for-profit organisations (e.g., a state owned oil-company) or publicly owned non-profit organisations (e.g. a publicly owned hospital). Note that the public category should be read to mean only state-ownership in a strict sense. Charities, foundations, cooperatives, etc. are therefore usually private owners. For mixed ownership, a 50% rule can suffice to determine public vs. private ownership, e.g., a company with 60% private ownership should be assigned to 'private employer'. ....................................................................................................................................................................

Note:
/ CN: High number of missing values, as agricultural work is not counted as paid work and both, people who are currently working in agriculture but have never done non-agricultural work in the past just like respondents who are currently unemployed and have never done non-agricultural work in the past, were filtered out before the above question was asked. Their missing answers are included in code -9 'No answer'. / DK: The data generated with the question documented above was used to generate both TYPORG2 and EMPREL. Self-employed and respondents working for own family's business were encoded to 'Private employer' in TYPORG2. / FR: 'Works for government or local communities' and 'Works for publicly owned firm' are encoded to code 1 'Public'. 'Works for an association, a mutual company or a cooperative', 'Works for a private firm', 'Self-employed' and 'Works for family's business' are encoded to code 2 'Private'. / NO: Norwegian response options c, d, e have been assigned to ISSP standard code 1 'Public employer', while Norwegian response options a+b have been coded with ISSP standard code 2 'Private employer'. TYPORG2 code 2 includes 'Overseas-owned private sector company or firm' and 'NZ-owned private sector company or firm'. / TW: EMPREL, TYPORG1 and TYPORG2 were derived from the same question.
