The US data capture all spouse variables regardless of habitation status. In contrast, the US data only capture the variables of cohabiting partners, but not information from non-cohabiting partners. / US: Respondents with spouses/ [cohabitating] partners 'Unemployed, laid off, looking for work' were not asked whether their spouses/ [cohabitatin] partners ever had a job for as long as one year. These cases were assigned to ISSP standard code 2 in SPWORK 'Currently not in paid work, paid work in the past'.
