  • Note:
/ CN: High number of missing values, as SPEMPREL was only asked of respondents whose spouse or partner is currently in paid work, i.e. only in the case where their partner or spouse is engaged in non-agriculture work.
/ HR: For Croatia, there are no cases for codes 3 and 4 since the questionnaire missed the question about the number of employees if a respondent's spouse/ partner is/ was self-employed. Respondents whose spouse/ partner is/ was self-employed with employees were coded as code 6 'Self-employed with employees, no numbers available'.
/ SK: SPEMPREL has been provided according to the former format for SPEMPREL including the four categories 1 'Employee', 2 'Self-employed without employees', 3 'Self-employed with employees' and 4 'Working for own family's business', following the ISSP Guidelines in effect until ISSP 2018. Hence, for the self-employed respondents no information is available about their number of employees. They were encoded to code 6 'Self-employed with employees; no numbers available'.
/ SR: The ranges in the numbers of employees for the self-employed partners, described in codes 3 and 4 in SPEMPREL, differ from the standard. Info for spouses/ partners currently not in paid work, paid work in the past (SPWORK=2) not available.
/ US: The US data capture all spouse variables regardless of habitation status. In contrast, the US data only capture the variables of cohabiting partners, but not information from non-cohabiting partners.
/ US: SPEMPREL was collected using the previous format for SPEMPREL that was mandatory until ISSP 2018. As a consequence, no information is available on the exact number of employees for the self-employed spouses/ partners. Spouses/ Partners working self-employed with employees are encoded to the extra code 6 'Self-employed with employees; no numbers available'. (en)
