  • ISCED 2011 (three-digit): highest completed degree of education [merged variable]

    This variable collates the information on highest completed educational qualification/ degree of respondents coded in the nat_ISCD variables into a single variable for all countries.

    Procedure:
    - First, the highest completed educational qualification/ degree of respondents is asked country-specific (see variables AT_ISCD-ZA_ISCD).
    - Then ISCED is formed from the nat_ISCD variables, whereby the coding of the ISCED variable is identical to the coding of the nat_ISCD variables (three-digit ISCED 2011 codes following the ISCED 2011 A classification (ISCED-A)).
    - For ISCED, the country-specific labels of the nat_ISCD variables are transferred to the official ISCED 2011 standard labels of the three-digit A-codes.

    In the ISSP project, ISCED 2011 codes including 'Orientation unspecified' (i.e. 560 660 760 860) are coded to the next level (500 600 700 800).
