  • BVQ_29. HHADULT

Again including yourself, how many adults of 18 years and older live in your household?

Adults of 18 years and older _______ -> HHADULT
Children between [school entry age] to 17 years of age _______
Children below [school entry age] _______

This makes a total of how many people? _______

    (Please write in.)

COMMENT ON HHADULT: Depending on interview mode, different options for presenting the questions BVQ_28.-BVQ_31. would be preferable. One option is a household grid that can easily be presented in self-administered modes. In a face to face interview, the interviewer has the chance to ask for the different groups of household members separately and discuss possible inconsistencies, so the above mentioned grid can be broken up into individual questions.
    ....................................................................................................................................................................

AT: How many of them are adults of 18 years or older?
AU: Including yourself, how many people - including children - usually live in your household? Adults of 18 years and older

    CN: Not asked.
CZ: How many of those people are adults aged 18 and more? The sum of persons in rows A, B and C should equal the total number of persons in the household in [HOMPOP]. If not, correct the number of adults and children.
DE: Number of persons aged 18 + derived from '(If HOMPOP>1) How old are the people you live with? Please enter the age for each of these persons in the household! Person 1 AGE: _____, Person 2 AGE: _____, Person 3 AGE: _____, ... Person 10 AGE: _____'.
DK: How many people live in your household (including yourself)? Please write how many there are in the different age groups. a) Adults 18 years or older? Number: _____
FI: Including yourself, how many people usually live in your household? b) Aged 18 years or older: _____persons
FR: How many persons live in your household, including yourself? Adults of 18 years and more: _____
HR: Including you, how many persons (including children) live in your household? How many adults (18 years old and higher):
HU: Derived from household roster 'Now I would like to ask a few questions about the members of the household. Let's start with you!' ... 'What is your data of birth (birth year, birth month)?'.
IL: c) And how many adults of 18 years and older, including you, live in the household?
IN: How many adults in household (18 years or above)?
IS: Next we ask how many people usually live in your home? a) Including yourself, how many adults, 18 years and older, usually live in the household?
IT: Again including yourself, how many adults of 18 years and older usually live in your household?
JP: Including yourself, how many people usually live in your household? Adults of 18 years and older:
MX: How many adults (over 18 years of age) live and sleep in your household?
NL: Computed: HHADULT = HOMPOP - HHCHILDR (HHCHILDR includes all children of the household, regardless of their age).
NO: Including yourself, how many people live normally in your household, and how are the household members distributed on age groups? a) Number of people 18 years or more: _____
NZ: Derived from 'We would like to know about who is currently living with you in your household. We don't need to know names, just their ages, genders, and relationships to you. Please list all people living in the household at the moment in the grid below.': HHADULT (18+).
PH: Including yourself, how many adults of 18 years old and older live in your household? Total adults 18 and above in HH: _______
PL: Computed: HHADULT = HOMPOP - CHILDREN.
RU: How many adults live in your household including yourself? Number _____
SI: Name the number of people that live together with you in household - including yourself. Adults 18 years +

SR: Derived from 'Age and month of birth' of all people in the household (household box).

US: Household size and composition - Household composition: Number of members over 17 years old: _______ / Including yourself, how many individuals 18 or older live in this household? If you have roommates, please include them. Please also include those who usually live here but are away temporarily, such as those on business trips, at school, or temporarily in a hospital.
ZA: Derived from household roster (from the question 'Please list all persons in the household who eat from the same cooking pot and who were resident 15 out of the past 30 days'). (en)
  • Note:
/ CH: The household composition was checked and inconsistencies corrected based on information from the national register. However, if respondents did not answer the question about the household composition at all, as a rule, their answers were left in the dataset as 'No answer' and these were not supplemented with the information from the national register for ethical reasons in the context of sample data.
/ HU: In the questionnaire, up to nine people could be specified for a household.
/ NZ: Asked in much more detail, as 'who else is living in the household with you', and then summarised for the variables required. Also performed some correction, as it has been discovered that a large number of people failed to include their spouse or partner, possibly because they had just been answering questions about them separately.
/ US: HHADULT is computed from two different sources, based on the GSS variable FORM. It is either equal to the number of people over 18 in the household roster, publicly released as ADULTS (FORM=1) or ADULTS_EXP (FORM=2), whose question text is above. (en)
