The next questions deal with the work situation of your spouse/ partner.
By work we mean doing income-producing work, as an employee, self-employed or working for his/ her own family's business, for at least one hour per week. If he/ she temporarily is not working for pay because of temporary illness/ parental leave/ vacation/ strike, etc., please refer to his/ her normal work situation.

/ DK: The first question corresponds to the one of SPMAINST. / NZ: SPWORK is based on SPMAINST mainly. / US: The US data capture all spouse variables regardless of habitation status. In contrary, the US data only capture cohabitating partner variables, not information from non-cohabitating partners. / US: Respondents with spouses/ [cohabitating] partners 'Unemployed, laid off, looking for work' were were not asked whether their spouses/ [cohabitatin] partners had ever had a job. These cases were assigned to ISSP standard code 2 in SPWORK.
