  • BVQ_28. HOMPOP

Including yourself, how many people - including children - usually live in your household?

Adults of 18 years and older
Children between [school entry age] to 17 years of age
    Children below [school entry age]

This makes a total of how many people? -> HOMPOP

COMMENT ON HOMPOP: Depending on interview mode, different options for presenting the questions BVQ_28.-BVQ_31. would be preferable. One option is a household grid that can easily be presented in self-administered modes. In a face to face interview, the interviewer has the chance to ask for the different groups of household members separately and discuss possible inconsistencies, so the above mentioned grid can be broken up into individual questions.

  • Note:
/ CH: The HH composition was checked and, where necessary, corrected based on information from the national register.
/ SE: This is a new question version, introduced in 2016, of trying to get correct information regarding the household composition. This is the best solution so far, much less errors compared to previous attempts in former surveys. However, still some respondents do not seem to be able to fill in the right figures. Therefore, the household variables HOMPOP, HHADULT, HHCHILDR, HHTODD may contain some measurement errors.
/ SR: The questions on household size was asked separately from the ages of the members of the household, which led to inconsistencies. Additionally, there was an inconsistent formulation in the question for HOMPOP: the intro said 'include respondent & partner', the question itself 'exclude respondent & partner'; HOMPOP was reconstructed by consulting questionnaires and response forms; some inconcistencies however remained.
