Note:
/ DK: Due to a filtering error in the questionnaire, all respondents who answered that they are employed in the public sector were not directly asked about the purpose of the business they work in. This has been compensated for by imputing the value '2' for these respondents for the variable 'TYPORG1'. / ES: The Spanish questionnaire for ISSP 2018 includes an instruction for interviewers to make this question refer to the main wage earner in the household if the respondent has never worked (3 in WORK). These data are not included here. / FR: By mistake, the answer option 'Works for a private firm' was not included in the question on the French variable 'WRKTYP'. Yet, cases for this answer option could be created for TYPORG1, however, the number of cases for this category may be slightly lower than in other years. / FR: 'Works for publicly owned firm', 'Works for a private firm', 'Self employed' and 'Works for family's business' are encoded to code 1 'For-profit'. 'Works for government or local communities' and 'Works for an association, a mutual company or a cooperative' are encoded to code 2 'Non-profit'. / GB-GBN: The data includes self-employed as for-profit, just like private sector firms or companies. Non-profit organisations comprise nationalised industries or public corporations (Post Office, BBC), other public sector organisations (Civil Service, NHS hospitals, Police) or charity and voluntary sector organisatoins (churches, trade unions). / GE: Pre-Testing showed that in some cases people are/ were (self-)employed informally or employed by individuals who could not be classified as a profit/ non-profit organisation. Therefore, this question was fielded with the additional answer option 'none'. / NZ: For-profit inlcudes overseas-owned private sector companies or firms + NZ-owned private sector companies or firms + working for own family's business + self-employed. Non profit includes public sector organisations (e.g. government department, local authority, state-owned enterprise) + non-profit/ charity/ welfare organisations. / RU: EMPREL, TYPORG1 and TYPORG2 are derived from the same question. / TW: EMPREL, TYPORG1 and TYPORG2 were derived from the same question. / US: In the US questionnaire, there has been a third category 'Government or government agency' besides the two ISSP standard categories 'For-profit organisation' and 'Non-profit organisation'. Respondents who answered to the third category were encoded to code 2 'Non-profit organisation'.
