Note:
/ CL: EMPREL has been provided according to the former format for EMPREL following the ISSP Guidelines in effect until ISSP 2017, including the four categories 1 'Employee', 2 'Self-employed without employees', 3 'Self-employed with employees' and 4 'Working for own family's business'. Unfortunately, the former variable NEMPLOY about the number of employees has not been asked. Hence, no information is available for the self-employed respondents about their number of employees. They were encoded to code 6 'Self-employed with employees; no numbers available'. / DE: Farmers with less then 50 ha are coded self-employed without employees; farmers with 50 ha and above are coded self-employed with 1-9 employees. / DK: The data generated with the question documented above was used to generate both EMPREL and TYPORG2 (comp. 'Background Variable Documentation'). / ES: The Spanish questionnaire for ISSP 2018 includes an instruction for interviewers to make this question refer to the main wage earner in the household if the respondent has never worked (3 in WORK). These data are not included here. / FR: By mistake, the answer option 'Works for a private firm' was not included in the question on WRKTYP. Cases for this answer option could be created, however, the number of cases may be slightly lower than in other years. / GB-GBN: Category 5 'Working for own family's business' can't be computed. / IS: Those who are self-employed with employees answered a second question embedded in this one. The second half is a question on the number of employees. / RU: EMPREL, TYPORG1 and TYPORG2 are derived from the same question. / SE: For ISSP 2018, EMPREL was still computed according to the old format and the question of writing in the number of employees (previously derived to NEMPLOY), which was used for ISSP 2017 and earlier. Based on this information it was possible to distinguish between the self-employed having less thatn 10 or more than 10 employees. There were a few cases where the number of employees were missing. These were put in EMPREL category 3 'Self-employed with 1 to 9 employees' since it is very unusual that self-employed have more than 10 employees. / SR: Hustling is typical for Suriname; in the Surinamese situation hustling means working without a contract. For example: somebody who sells on the street, or who works as a cleaning woman for a private person. / SR: EMPREL has been asked following the question format in effect until ISSP 2017 including the former four answer categories. However, the current format could be computed with hindsight because for the self-employed respondents with employees, the information on the number of employees is availabe (former variable NEMPLOY). / TW: EMPREL, TYPORG1 and TYPORG2 were derived from the same question. / ZA: EMPREL has been asked following the question format in effect until ISSP 2017 including the former four answer categories. However, the current format could be computed with hindsight because for the self-employed respondents with employees, the information on the number of employees is availabe (former variable NEMPLOY).
