  • Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Poland, Portugal, Russia: answer category 2 'registered partnership' was not implemented because it is not a legal form of union in country.

Iceland, Slovenia, Ukraine: Category used for registered partnership refers to cohabitation.

Russia: answer category 5 'separated' not included in field questionnaire.

Estonia: Due to an error in field questionnaire, the filter used for v236 and v237 differs from the master questionnaire. Widowed, divorced and separated respondents were not asked about their current cohabitation or relationship. Consequently, they also skipped all spouse/partner related questions and are coded with "NAP" in v250 to v258 (n=445).

Great Britain: Due to an error in the implementation of field questionnaire in CAPI, the filter used for v236 and v237 differs from the master questionnaire. All married (834 cases), or in registered partnership (12 cases) respondents have answered the question (v236) although shouldn't. Consequently all married not living with partner (n=63) answered v237. Answers have not been cleaned. On the other hand, respndents who were never married or in registered partnership (v234=6, n=478) skipped v236 and v237, although should have been asked the question. Consequently, they also skipped all spouse/partner related questions and are coded with "NAP" in v250 to v258.They have been coded 9 ‚no answer‘.

Lithuania: Due to a printing error in the FQ the filter used for v236 and v237 differs from the master questionnaire. Widowed, divorced and separated respondents were not asked about their current cohabitation or relationship. Consequently, they also skipped all spouse/partner related questions and are coded with "NAP" in v250 to v258 (n=408).

Netherlands: Due to an error in the filter programming of v234, all respondents who are married or living in a registered partnership (v234=1 or 2) were asked for v236. They all got the questions about partners/spouses (v250-v258), regardless of their answer in v236 "Living with partner".

Serbia: Due to an error in edited field questionnaire, the filter instructions are contradictory: While the skipping instrucions in Q72 (v234): 6-9 go to Q74 are conform with the master questionnaire, the Interviewer instruction for Q74 (v236) is "AKO JE U ISPITANIK U BRAKU ILI REGISTROVANOM PARTNERSTVU“ (ask if respondent is married or in registered partnership), who should actually skip to Q76. This deviations leads to filter inconformities in the data.
All married (n=725)/in registered partnership (n=41) have been asked v236. All widowed (n=145), divorced (n=118) & separated (n=5) respondents have skipped v236. Respondents who were never married or in registered partnership or coded missing (n=466) should have been asked v236: due to the contradictory filter instructions, n=301 respondents have substantial answers and 165 skipped the question and are coded as -2 ‚no answer‘.
For all cases, answer pattern in v237 is clearly non-conform with any of the instructions.

Ukraine: The filter used for v236 and v237 differs from the master questionnaire: respondents coded in 2 'resgistered partnership' (transl. "civil marriage") did not skip v236 (n=88).

  • Italy: The response category "Registered partnership" has been translated as "Unito/a civilmente". The percentage of respondents in the sample who indicated this category as their family status was much more in line with that of "civil marriage" than with "registered civil partnership". This seems to be due to a misunderstanding: it was understood as civil (instead of religious) marriage. Therefore, and after the suggestion of the Principal Investigator, they were recoded as 1 "married". Consequently, no cases are coded as 2 "registered civil partnership".

(de)

The EVS holding includes integrated datasets on every EVS wave and, in addition, the national datasets for the 1999 and 2008 waves. Questions repeated at least twice in EVS, or EVS and WVS, are cumulated in the EVS Trend File. The EVS Trend File can easily be merged with the World Values Survey (WVS) Trend File into the Integrated Values Surveys Data File. (en)
