[qb3 What was the reason for last taking the antibiotics that you used?

qb3_1 Pneumonia (an infection causing an inflammation of one or both lungs)
qb3_2 Bronchitis (inflammation and swelling of the bronchi, the airways that carry airflow from the trachea into the lungs)
qb3_3 Rhinopharyngitis (inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nose and pharynx)
    qb3_4 Flu
    qb3_5 Cold
    qb3_6 Sore throat
    qb3_7 Cough
    qb3_8 Fever
    qb3_9 Headache
    qb3_10 Diarrhea
    qb3_11 Urinary tract infection
    qb3_12 Skin or wound infection
    qb3_13 Other (SPONTANEOUS)
    qb3_14 DK]

According to the Special Eurobarometer 445 Report "Antimicrobial Resistance" (page 15) respondents who only took antibiotics to treat illnesses (coded 1 "Mentioned" in qb3_1 to qb3_5 only) are coded 1 ("Illness only)" in variable qb3t. Respondents who only took antibiotics to treat symptoms (coded 1 "Mentioned" in qb3_6 to qb3_12 only) are coded 2 ("Symptom only)" in variable qb3t. Respondents who mentioned at least one answer from category ("Illness only)" and at least one answer from category ("Symptom only)" are coded 3 ("Illness and symptom)" in variable qb3t.
Please note that category 3 ("Illness and symptom") in summarized variable qb3t also includes respondents coded 1 (“Mentioned”) in variable qb3_13 (“ANTIBIOTICS REASON: OTHER (SPONT)”) in addition to their answers from both categories.

?:groupDescription
(de)
  • Since the early nineteen seventies the European Commission´s “Standard and Special Eurobarometer” are regularly monitoring the public opinion in the European Union member countries at times. Interviews are conducted face-to-face, in each spring and each autumn, at all times based on new samples with a size 1000 respondents per country. Separate samples are drawn for Northern Ireland and East Germany. After the EU enlargement in 2004, remaining and new Candidate Countries are also regularly included in selected surveys. The Standard Eurobarometer modules ask for attitudes towards European unification, institutions and policies, complemented by measurements for general socio-political orientations, as well as by respondent and household demographics. Intermittently special Eurobarometer modules extensively address topics, such as environment, science and technology, health or family issues, social or ethnic exclusion, quality of life etc. The “European Communities Studies” 1970-1973 can be considered forerunner studies, as well the “Attitudes towards Europe” from 1962.
