BVQ_13. ISCO08: Respondent's Occupation: International Occupation Code 2008
What is/ was your occupation - i.e., what is/ was the name or title of your main job?
In your main job, what kind of activities do/ did you do most of the time?
What does/ did the firm/ organisation you work/ worked for mainly make or do - i.e., what kind of production/ function is/ was performed at your workplace?

AU: What is/ was your occupation - i.e., what is/ was the name or title of your main job? In your main job, what kind of activities do/ did you do most of the time? What does/ did the firm/organisation you work/ worked for mainly make or do – i.e., what kind of production/ function is/ was performed at your workplace?
BE: What is the name of your current main profession (of former profession if you have no paid work anymore)? Describe as detailed as possible what your (former) profession implies (implied).

ES: And which was your last job? That is, what does/ did your work consist on, specifically? (Please be as precise as possible, describing the tasts you do/ did. Example: clinic assistant, security agent, aesthetician, ranger, occupational therapist, dressmaker, etc.) We are referring to your main occupation: the one for which you (or the person who earns most in the household) obtains/ obtained your/ his/ her highest earnings.
FI: What is you current or latest occupation? Please write in your job title as specifically and clearly as possible, for example, electronics technician rather than technician. Write in the job title, not qualification/ degree. What are or were your main activities at work? What does/ did the company or organization for which you work/ worked mainly do/ make?

Note:
/ AT: ISCO 2008 codes, 3-digits multiplied by 10.
/ DE: Constructed from respondent’s current occupation. If respondent currently not employed or part time employed but employed in the past, the last occupation taken.
/ ES: The Spanish questionnaire for ISSP Citizenship 2014 includes an instruction for interviewers to refer questions (WRKHRS, EMPREL, NEMPLOY, WRKSUP; NSUP; TYPORG1/2, and ISCO08) to the main wage earner in the household only if the respondent has never worked. These data are not included in the ISSP cumulative file.
/ GB: Where the frequency of any 4 digit ISCO code in the ISSP dataset is less than 5, the code is reduced to 2 digits.
/ IS: By mistake people were asked to answer in as short and clear manner as possible. Because of this a lot of the answers were too short and simple (as apposed to specific and detailed) for the coders. This may have resulted in more missing values on ISCO08 in this year.
/ SK: As the ISSP 2013 and 2014 modules were done together and coding was done first for the ISSP 2013, ISCO 88 was used. For the ISSP 2014 deposit automatic conversion between ISCO 1988 to ISCO 2008 was used (if one to one mapping existed, conversion script from Harry Ganzeboom's website was used). Other cases were individually reconsidered and coded.

Zentrale Themen dieser Erhebungen sind daher Bürgerrechte, Bürgerpflichten, Partizipation, Toleranz, Gruppenzugehörigkeit, Vertrauen (sowohl soziales als auch politisches Vertrauen), Befähigung, politisches Interesse, Bewertung von Institutionen, Zufriedenheit mit der Demokratie und globale vs. nationale Staatsbürgerschaft.

The ISSP-modules deal in great detail with several aspects of citizenship addressing a legal (rights and duties) as well as a psychological (identity) dimension. Therefore, central themes of these surveys are citizen rights, citizen obligations, participation, tolerance, group membership, trust (social trust as well as political trust), empowerment, political interest, evaluation of institutions, satisfaction with democracy and global vs. national citizenship.
