    This additional alphanumeric NUTS CODES variable is produced by the archive. It integrates all country specific p7 variables given that the regional units are defined in accordance with the EUROSTAT Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS) respectively in accordance with the Statistical Regions for Candidate and EFTA Countries 2010. For each country the lowest available NUTS subdivision level is considered.

    The official NUTS codes are coded verbatim in accordance with the in each case valid (applicable) NUTS version. All version details and changes are documented in the official EUROSTAT classification history (History of NUTS). A second variable (nutslvl) indicates the coded NUTS LEVEL for each country.

    France:
    The territorial unit of Corse (FR83) and the Oversea departments (Départements d'outre-mer: FR9) are not covered.

    Italy:
    Starting with Eurobarometer wave 77 (NUTS version 2010 with regular amendment as of January 1, 2012) NUTS 1 codes for Italy have changed for North-East (ITH instead of ITD) and Center (ITI instead of ITE). The reason for this are minor boundary shifts on NUTS 2 and 3 level (ITI3: Marche and ITH5: Emilia Romagna).

    Ireland:
    Starting with EB 81.3 the category scheme for country specific protocol variable P7 (REGION) has changed for Ireland introducing NUTS 3 categories.

    Greece:
    The Aegean Islands (EL41 - Βόρειο Αιγαίο/Voreio Aigaio and EL42 - Νότιο Αιγαίο/Notio Aigaio) as well as the Ionian Islands (EL22 - Iόνια Νησιά/Ionia Nisia) are not covered.
    Starting with Eurobarometer wave 77 (NUTS version 2010 with regular amendment as of January 1, 2012) the standard country prefix 'GR' is replaced by 'EL'. The remaining numerical part of the codes remains unaffected.

    Spain:
    The autonomous cities of Ceuta (ES63 - Ciudad Autónoma de Ceuta) and Melilla (ES64 - Ciudad Autónoma de Melilla) are not covered.

    Portugal:
    The autonomous regions of the Azores (PT20 - Região Autónoma dos Açores) and of Madeira (PT30 - Região Autónoma da Madeira) are not covered.
    Please note that according to the NUTS version 2013 with regular amendment as of January 1, 2015, and starting with Eurobarometer 83.1 code “PT17” is labelled “Área Metropolitana de Lisboa”.

    Finland:
    Starting with EB 81.3 for Finland only one country specific protocol variable P7 (REGION) is available. The variable p7fi corresponds to the NUTS 2 breakdown in accordance to NUTS 2010 with regular amendment as of January 1, 2012. The NUTS 3 breakdown is no longer available for Finland.

    Estonia:
    Starting with EB 81.3 the category scheme for country specific protocol variable P7 (REGION) has changed for Estonia introducing the official NUTS 3 categories.

    Bulgaria:
    Starting with EB 81.3 for Bulgaria only one country specific protocol variable P7 (REGION) is available. The NUTS 3 breakdown is no longer available for Bulgaria.

    Croatia:
    Starting with EB 81.3 the category scheme for country specific protocol variable P7 (REGION) has changed for Croatia introducing the NUTS 2 and NUTS 3 categories.

  • Seit Anfang der siebziger Jahre erhebt die Europäische Kommission mit dem "Standard and Special Eurobarometer" regelmäßig die öffentliche Meinung in den Mitgliedstaaten der Europäischen Union. Die Befragungen werden jeweils im Frühjahr und im Herbst auf der Grundlage neuer Stichproben mit einer Größe von 1000 Befragten pro Land persönlich durchgeführt. Für Nordirland und Ostdeutschland werden gesonderte Stichproben gezogen. Nach der EU-Erweiterung im Jahr 2004 werden auch die verbleibenden und die neuen Beitrittskandidaten regelmäßig in ausgewählte Umfragen einbezogen. Die Standard-Eurobarometer-Module fragen nach der Einstellung zur europäischen Einigung, zu den Institutionen und zur Politik, ergänzt durch Messungen zu allgemeinen soziopolitischen Orientierungen sowie zu den demografischen Merkmalen der Befragten und der Haushalte. In unregelmäßigen Abständen befassen sich spezielle Eurobarometer-Module ausführlich mit Themen wie Umwelt, Wissenschaft und Technologie, Gesundheit oder Familie, soziale oder ethnische Ausgrenzung, Lebensqualität usw.   • Since the early nineteen seventies the European Commission´s “Standard and Special Eurobarometer” are regularly monitoring the public opinion in the European Union member countries at times. Interviews are conducted face-to-face, in each spring and each autumn, at all times based on new samples with a size 1000 respondents per country. Separate samples are drawn for Northern Ireland and East Germany. After the EU enlargement in 2004, remaining and new Candidate Countries are also regularly included in selected surveys. The Standard Eurobarometer modules ask for attitudes towards European unification, institutions and policies, complemented by measurements for general socio-political orientations, as well as by respondent and household demographics. Intermittently special Eurobarometer modules extensively address topics, such as environment, science and technology, health or family issues, social or ethnic exclusion, quality of life etc. The “European Communities Studies” 1970-1973 can be considered forerunner studies, as well the “Attitudes towards Europe” from 1962.
