    / ISSP 1987 + 1992 + 1999 + 2009: The original variable on party affiliation (left-right) PARTY_LR was measured differently across modules and countries. The cumulation tries to distinguish between (1) cases where party affiliation (left-right) was derived from a question on respondent’s affiliation to a certain party (PRTY_LR1) and (2) cases where this information was derived from direct questions on left-right placement (PRTY_LR2). In 2009, NZ and PL provided left-right classifications for parties the responents had already voted for in the last general election, see variable VOTE_LR.
    / ISSP 1992: The variable on respondent's party affiliation (PRTY_LR1) for Hungary (H121) cannot be cumulated. It is available in the "Add On" file ZA5891 as variable PLR_HU92.
    / ISSP 1992: The data file of 1992 also contains a variable "Left-right scale" (V146) with substantial information for DE, PL, SI and the US (national variable USA146).
