    Split ballot: mg13-17, mg19-23 (alternate questions)

    ALLBUS 2016 used a two-group split-ballot design to increase the total number of questions surveyed in the focus module on ‘Attitudes towards ethnic groups in Germany’. The two split versions each fielded a question battery on a different topic.
    Split 1 contained a question on social distance. Respondents were asked to indicate how they felt about members of different groups marrying into their own family. Split 2 contained a question on legal equality for foreigners. Here, respondents were asked to indicate whether different groups of people should enjoy ‚the same rights as Germans in every respect‘. Both questions had previously been surveyed in ALLBUS 1996 and ALLBUS 2006. As in these previous surveys, respondents were asked in each case to answer with respect to Italians, ethnic Germans from Eastern Europe, Turks and Jews. In ALLBUS 2016 the list of groups was extended to include Poles. As the questions regarding Poles have not been replicated yet, they are not part of this dataset. Instead they can be found in mg18 and mg24 in ZA5250.
