    Split-Ballot: Gender Roles

    ALLBUS 2012 used a two-group split-ballot design to test an updated item battery on gender roles in the context of work and family life.
    Split 1 replicated a question battery that has been surveyed numerous times in the ALLBUS program since 1982 (fr01, fr02, fr03a, fr04a, fr05a, fr06). This battery consists of three items on the proper role of men and women in the family and three items on the perceived consequences of female participation in the work force. In all six items respondents are asked in how far they agree with conservative positions.
    Respondents in split 2 received an updated and extended item battery, which consisted of ten questions. For the new item battery, the wording of the established items was modified so as to reflect the changed position of women in contemporary working life. Moreover, four new items were added. These new items were designed to represent non-traditional gender roles and explicitly address the role of men in the family.
    The data of each split-half has been stored in separate variables.
