    International Socio-Economic Index of Occupational Status (ISEI) for ISCO-08

    With the introduction of ISCO-08, Harry B.G. Ganzeboom updated the derivation of ISEI-Scores. The procedure used to calculate ISEI scores for ISCO-08 generally followed the practice described for ISCO-68 and ISCO-88 in Ganzeboom et al. (1992, 1996, 2003). However, the ISEI scores for ISCO-88 are based on an updated and extended set of data. This set of data is a cumulation of all ISSP-modules surveyed between 2002 and 2007. It contains information for 42 countries and a total of 198.500 respondents. Whereas the data base for previous ISEI versions contained only information for male respondents, the updated database has information for respondents of both sexes. Additionally, Ganzeboom modified the way income data entered into the calculation. To account for the gender specific distribution of part-time work, income per hour was used instead of total income (Ganzeboom 2010a).
    Please be advised that there are as yet no ISEI scores for the incomplete codes and the general categories of ISCO-88. These cases were coded as ‘cannot be generated’ (code -32).
