    The data in this variable was calculated from the data in dm02 IMMIGRANT: SINCE WHEN IN GERMANY, YEAR and the year of the survey (year).

    When there was no valid data in dm02, the number of years could not be calculated. These cases were coded as -32 ‘cannot be generated’.
    The calculation of the data for ALLBUS 1991 additionally used information on the month of arrival in Germany (comp. V332 IMMIGRANT: SINCE WHEN IN GERMANY, MONTH in ZA1990, this data is not included in the cumulative data set):
    The number of years calculated on the basis of dm02 and year was reduced by 1 when the month of arrival (V332 in ZA1990) was between July and December.
