Note:
These political weights are provided as optional for the analysis of voting behaviour related questions (Q.K1 to Q.K10 / V541 to V658, C5/V794). In its general function they correspond to the respective standard weight (W1 to W84, WEX), but introducing each countries’ VOTING AGE POPULATION as additional factor for the comparison of sample composition and corresponding universe description.
Unlike the regular WEIGHT RESULT FROM TARGET (W1), this corresponding political weight includes the population size weighting factors for Germany (East+West) and the United Kingdom (Great Britain+Northern Ireland). There is no POLITICAL WEIGHT for the separate samples in Germany and the UK.

W31 POLITICAL WEIGHT RESULT FROM TARGET EU27 (VOTING AGE)
This POST-STRATIFICATION WEIGHT is based on a comparison for each sample with the respective universe description. As such in all countries, gender, age, region and size of locality are introduced in the iteration procedure carried out by the fieldwork institutes.

Seit Anfang der siebziger Jahre erhebt die Europäische Kommission mit dem "Standard and Special Eurobarometer" regelmäßig die öffentliche Meinung in den Mitgliedstaaten der Europäischen Union. Die Befragungen werden jeweils im Frühjahr und im Herbst auf der Grundlage neuer Stichproben mit einer Größe von 1000 Befragten pro Land persönlich durchgeführt. Für Nordirland und Ostdeutschland werden gesonderte Stichproben gezogen. Nach der EU-Erweiterung im Jahr 2004 werden auch die verbleibenden und die neuen Beitrittskandidaten regelmäßig in ausgewählte Umfragen einbezogen. Die Standard-Eurobarometer-Module fragen nach der Einstellung zur europäischen Einigung, zu den Institutionen und zur Politik, ergänzt durch Messungen zu allgemeinen soziopolitischen Orientierungen sowie zu den demografischen Merkmalen der Befragten und der Haushalte. In unregelmäßigen Abständen befassen sich spezielle Eurobarometer-Module ausführlich mit Themen wie Umwelt, Wissenschaft und Technologie, Gesundheit oder Familie, soziale oder ethnische Ausgrenzung, Lebensqualität usw. Die "European Communities Studies" 1970-1973 können als Vorläuferstudien angesehen werden, ebenso wie die "Attitudes towards Europe" von 1962.

Since the early nineteen seventies the European Commission´s “Standard and Special Eurobarometer” are regularly monitoring the public opinion in the European Union member countries at times. Interviews are conducted face-to-face, in each spring and each autumn, at all times based on new samples with a size 1000 respondents per country. Separate samples are drawn for Northern Ireland and East Germany. After the EU enlargement in 2004, remaining and new Candidate Countries are also regularly included in selected surveys. The Standard Eurobarometer modules ask for attitudes towards European unification, institutions and policies, complemented by measurements for general socio-political orientations, as well as by respondent and household demographics. Intermittently special Eurobarometer modules extensively address topics, such as environment, science and technology, health or family issues, social or ethnic exclusion, quality of life etc. The “European Communities Studies” 1970-1973 can be considered forerunner studies, as well the “Attitudes towards Europe” from 1962.
