    The Netherlands (V954): Political party "List Pim Fortuyn" is not listed in the field questionnaire but included in the original data set.

    Germany (V955): For meaningful results this variable needs to be weighted by W3 WEIGHT GERMANY (V12) or be used for West and East Germany separately.

    Great Britain (V960): Only one national field questionnaire is provided for the United Kingdom, including equally parties from Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In some cases respondents from Great Britain mention political parties from Northern Ireland and vice versa. Because of conflicting standard codes, the Northern Irish “Democratic Unionist Party” (DUP) is coded ‘710’ for respondents from Great Britain, while the standard code for Northern Ireland is ‘701’.

    Northern Ireland (V961): Only one national field questionnaire is provided for the United Kingdom, including equally parties from Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In some cases respondents from Great Britain mention political parties from Northern Ireland and vice versa. The "Scottish Nationalist Party" (SNP) is coded '711' for respondents from Northern Ireland, while the standard code for Great Britain is '700'.
    Please notice that the documentation for Northern Ireland is not clear, especially in the cases of “Sinn Fein” (SF) and the “Social Democratic and Labour Party” (SDLP). The original TNS code sheet documents different (region specific) coding for Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Present coding in the archive dataset is guided by the UK questionnaire with common coding for Great Britain and Northern Ireland, which comes closer to the integrated variables in the original dataset. Hereby the relative frequencies for both parties, SF and SDLP, do not correspond to their election results in the period between 2004 and 2009 (fieldwork 3-5 2008), but rather tend to be inversed for D53, D54 and D2.

  • Seit Anfang der siebziger Jahre erhebt die Europäische Kommission mit dem "Standard and Special Eurobarometer" regelmäßig die öffentliche Meinung in den Mitgliedstaaten der Europäischen Union. Die Befragungen werden jeweils im Frühjahr und im Herbst auf der Grundlage neuer Stichproben mit einer Größe von 1000 Befragten pro Land persönlich durchgeführt. Für Nordirland und Ostdeutschland werden gesonderte Stichproben gezogen. Nach der EU-Erweiterung im Jahr 2004 werden auch die verbleibenden und die neuen Beitrittskandidaten regelmäßig in ausgewählte Umfragen einbezogen. Die Standard-Eurobarometer-Module fragen nach der Einstellung zur europäischen Einigung, zu den Institutionen und zur Politik, ergänzt durch Messungen zu allgemeinen soziopolitischen Orientierungen sowie zu den demografischen Merkmalen der Befragten und der Haushalte. In unregelmäßigen Abständen befassen sich spezielle Eurobarometer-Module ausführlich mit Themen wie Umwelt, Wissenschaft und Technologie, Gesundheit oder Familie, soziale oder ethnische Ausgrenzung, Lebensqualität usw.   • Since the early nineteen seventies the European Commission´s “Standard and Special Eurobarometer” are regularly monitoring the public opinion in the European Union member countries at times. Interviews are conducted face-to-face, in each spring and each autumn, at all times based on new samples with a size 1000 respondents per country. Separate samples are drawn for Northern Ireland and East Germany. After the EU enlargement in 2004, remaining and new Candidate Countries are also regularly included in selected surveys. The Standard Eurobarometer modules ask for attitudes towards European unification, institutions and policies, complemented by measurements for general socio-political orientations, as well as by respondent and household demographics. Intermittently special Eurobarometer modules extensively address topics, such as environment, science and technology, health or family issues, social or ethnic exclusion, quality of life etc. The “European Communities Studies” 1970-1973 can be considered forerunner studies, as well the “Attitudes towards Europe” from 1962.
