  • Derivation of data:
    The coding of the data on Inglehart’s political priorities in this data set has been used in the ALLBUS program since 1988. Earlier ALLBUS surveys used a different method of coding the data: In the original data for 1980 to 1986, the first variable recorded the respondent’s pick for most important of the political goals in V136-V139. The following three variables then contained the second, third and fourth most important goal respectively. In 1980 and 1982 the fourth most important goal was assigned without asking.
    For this cumulative data set, the data from 1980 to 1986 has been recoded in accordance with the survey practice as of 1988. However, because of the different way of recording the data, it is impossible to unambiguously recode codes 7 to 9 into the present format. Therefore, codes 7 to 9 have been uniformly recoded to code 9 in V136-V139.
