EphA4 gene expression is higher in the most vulnerable spinal cord motor neurons in ALS, and reducing EphA4 levels from developmental stages onwards not only prevents these motor neurons to degenerate in SOD1 mice, but also improves axonal regeneration after sciatic nerve axotomy [10].
