Myosins are a diverse superfamily of proteins found in all lineages of eukaryotes and include more than 20 families (myosins I-XX) of motor proteins that travel along tracks formed from actin, including some unconventional myosins (see reviews by Trybus 2008; Hammer and Wagner 2013).
