Amino acids linked with functionality in mammals are highly conserved in teleosts in the 5′ region for myo5a and myo5b duplicates (supplementary tables S2 and S3, Supplementary Material online), suggesting these duplicates retain the motor functions related to ATP- and actin-binding.
