To count the number of mf present in the peritoneal cavity at necropsy, a 100 μl sample of the aforementioned PBS washing fluid was added to 900 μl of 0.04% methylene blue, and then a 50–150 μl sample of the stained mf was streaked onto a glass slide and counted using a compound microscope.
