The first ventilatory threshold (also denominated as individual ventilatory threshold) was determined from the first increase in ventilation-minute with a rapid rise in the ventilatory equivalent of oxygen consumption with no concomitant increase in the ventilatory equivalent of carbon dioxide production curve.
