Subjects were asked about current alcohol consumption, and were defined as drinkers (more than 12 alcoholic drinks a year) or non-drinkers (fewer than 12 alcoholic drinks per year) to assess the interaction between alcohol and urinary metabolite levels, as found in previous studies [59, 60].
