One of the downregulated protease inhibitors we identified in cKO oviducts, Serpine1, was recently demonstrated to function as a secreted protease inhibitor that inhibits influenza A virus spreading by preventing viral surface glycoprotein maturation (Dittmann et al., Cell 2015, 160:631).
