Neuroscience research in a more recently investigated area, specific difficulty with numeracy or dyscalculia, has identified a core deficit in an area not previously targeted by educational interventions: numerosity: the inherited ‘number sense’ that enables estimation ‘at a glance’ of sets of up to four numbers.
