Information on parental suicide attempts between 1964 and 31 December of the inclusion year (1995, 2000 and 2005 respectively) was obtained from the National Patient Register and defined by the ICD-9 codes E950–E959 and E980–E989 or the ICD-10 codes X60–X84 and Y10–Y34.
