Although commercial inoculants have proved effective in improving silage fermentation (Weinberg and Muck, 1996; Arriola et al., 2011), successful control of fermentation depends on several factors, primarily the inoculation rate (at least 10 cfu/g fresh crop), and the presence of an adequate level of WSC (Islam et al., 2011; McDonald et al., 2011).
