The ultrasound probe was first adjusted to be aligned in the direction along the muscle fibers under the guidance of B-mode images (The muscle fibers could be seen as parallel straight lines in the images. If the ultrasound plane was at an angle to the fibers, the fibers would not be shown as clear lines).
