The dissected guts were placed in a sterile 1.5 mL pestle tube with 710 µl buffer AG (200 mM NaCl, 200 mM Tris, 20 mM EDTA, plus 6% SDS) and were homogenized by maceration with scissors and then crushed with a disposable sterile pestle (Bel-Art Products).
