The lack of retrograde-labeled cells in the experimental retinas took two primary forms: a focal absence, in wedge-shaped sectors with their vertex on the optic disc and their periphery toward the retinal periphery; and another, less conspicuous reduction that was diffuse and affected retinal areas containing some backlabeled RGCs.
