Statistical analysis of the differences between groups of retinas or groups of animals was conducted with non-parametric ANOVA tests using Satistix® V1.0 for Windows® 95 (Analytical Software, Tallahassee, FL) software; the Kruskal-Wallis test was used to compare more than two groups, and the Mann-Whitney test was used when comparing two groups only.
