Size-paired fish were transported to the study site in 2 l plastic bags of aerated seawater, and then released onto small patches (20×10×15 cm) of one of the three substrata: healthy P. damicornis (a bushy hard coral); thermally bleached P. damicornis (see below); dead P. damicornis.
