?:abstract
  • Women in politics have made important progress in descriptive representation. Nevertheless, there are still multiple obstacles that combine to keep women out of key decision making positions. In a context increasingly mediated by technology, gender violence in digital environments opens up new challenges towards an equitable democracy. These types of attacks displace women from the center of the political debate, reinforcing gender stereotypes and restricting their participation in social networks in order to avoid violence. Thus, the relationship of these women with their constituency and the possibility of communicating freely are limited. In collaboration with the Dirección de Igualdad of the Argentine National Chamber of Representatives and the National Democratic Institute, we created a questionnaire to collect perceptions of this phenomenon among national, provincial and local legislators. The results suggest a general agreement on the relevance of the problem and on its impact on women's careers. However, when inquiring about issues related to freedom of speech, the answers present lower levels of agreement. (xsd:string)
