?:abstract
  • This paper aims to consider the play 'In_Trânsito', featuring the Cia. Marginal theater collective and directed by Isabel Penoni and Joana Levi. 'In_Trânsito' is a site-specific performance (one that is staged in a physical space not originally built for this purpose) presented during people’s commute in the train cars of the branch line Saracuruna, departing from Central do Brasil, the central train station in Rio de Janeiro’s railway network. By providing a dialogue about urban motility and entitlement, and considering site-based performances that feature the city as stage or character, we try to comprehend - using an ethnographic account of the play - the dilemmas the city goes through and how social and artistic movements are permeated by what happens in the city.
