?:abstract
  • Describes the evolution of the Czech multimedia institution Receptar as a form of mass alternative education. In 1987 Czechoslovakia, Receptar was a TV show & periodical that featured various cultural hobbies. In the mid-1990s postrevolution Czech Republic, it has grown into an educational institution by reaching a large public audience through TV, radio, journals, clubs, & festivals. It is presented as a form of educational bricolage, defined as a process of disclosing marginalized, hidden, & alternative cultural codes. Claude Levi-Strauss's structuralist & Jacques Derrida's neostructuralist concepts of bricolage are applied to Receptar's alternative, but widespread, educational outreach, showing how it has gained access through a multitude of various routes outside mainstream projects & policies.
