  • Adolescent, adult or "in-between"? The biographical self-perception of young people in the context of the debate on emerging adulthood - According to Arnett, "emerging adulthood" as a phase of life is characterized by a specific subjective feeling of young people, who during this time often describe themselves neither as "still" adolescent nor as "already" adult, but as "in-between". The data of the AID:A 2019 survey offer the special feature of empirically analyzing the biographical self-perception of 12- to 32-year-olds. The study can thus make a contribution to the debate on "emerging adulthood", which has so far been conducted primarily in the Anglo-American world, less frequently in the context of youth research in Germany. In the present contribution, the biographical self-perception of young people between 12 and 32 years of age will be described in a first step. In a second step, the biographical self-perception of the age group of 18 to 25- year-olds will be set in relation to various socio-demographic characteristics, features of the life situation and events in the life course.
