?:abstract
  • Using data from the ISSP Environment Survey across 29 countries, this study examines gender-based disparities in perceptions of nuclear power risks. The analysis reveals that women generally perceive higher nuclear risks than men, especially regarding health, safety, and technology distrust. At the national level, gender inequality is a significant predictor, with countries exhibiting higher gender inequality showing greater public concern about nuclear power. Key factors such as maternal mortality and adolescent fertility rates play a notable role, suggesting that reproductive rights and broader gender disparities influence these perceptions more than political representation or education. These findings highlight the importance of considering both individual and structural inequalities to understand public attitudes toward nuclear energy, underscoring the need for further research into how gendered social and health disparities shape these risk perceptions.
