?:abstract
  • Iceland shares many similarities with the other four Nordic states – the states to which Icelanders feel closest (Hardarson 1985) – including common traditions of mature parliamentary democracy and open democratic government, a welfare state, an attachment to national sovereignty and strong defence, a competitive market economy and a strong regional affinity that promotes a ‘Nordic identity’ and cooperation (Miles 1996). Nevertheless, Iceland is distinguished by many important features. (xsd:string)
