?:abstract
  • Alongside long-term birth-rate falling in the majority of subjects of the Russian Federation, Yakutia keeps above-average level of birth rate determined by both preserved family tradition of having many children and household feedback to the measures of public welfare programs. However, the signs of postponing parenthood and changing matrimonial reproductive plans are observed here, caused by the estimates of family material well-being among other factors. The article emphasizes and investigates the relationships between family income and the number of children, impact of a subsequent childbirth on family material well-being. The birth rate in the Republic is analyzed preceding the development of the tasks to solve. The changes in the sequences of childbirths and their impact on the indicators of total birth rate are considered. Changes in fertility preferences of urban and rural females depending on their year of marriage are revealed. Disposable family income in the Republic is a significant factor contributing families to control subsequent births. The results of statistical analysis and sociological survey determined that the incomes of families with children always fall behind average incomes, and the risk for a family to pass into an aid-needy category is strengthened with the birth of a subsequent child. So, the proportion of families with many children having average income is 2.4 times lower than that of childless families. And the number of families with three and more children is twice higher among disadvantaged, than the number of childless families. The family ranking by income and family differentiation is provided. (xsd:string)
