?:abstract
  • The author examines the class structure of Ukrainian society in three aspects. First, by analysing its dynamics from independence until now and comparing it with several post-socialist and Western countries according to the EGP scheme. Second, by studying the changes in the system of dominant class identities: from the typical categories of the Soviet period (working class, peasants and intelligentsia) to post-Soviet subjective stratification centred around the middle class. Third, the author describes the mobilization patterns of the representatives of new classes, focusing on membership in political parties, trade unions and employers' associations, as well as participation in collective initiatives to protect their interests.
