?:abstract
  • The transition towards a circular economy model has been increasingly recognized at different institutional and systemic levels as a suitable framework to promote sustainable economic growth through greater efficiency in the use of resources, extension of products’ life cycle while safeguarding the environmental impacts. In this study, by using the data from the Flash Eurobarometer 441 sample survey and referring to a counterfactual setting, we aims at estimating the average effects of various circular economy practices on the SMEs’ economic performance, by explicitly considering the existence of endogeneity in the modelled processes. The results obtained supported the importance of intensifying and accelerating the transition to circularity, especially focusing on the optimization of waste management and the use of renewable energy.
