?:abstract
  • This chapter, by Bogdan Mihai Radu, examines Romania, a postcommunist country with a dominant Orthodox religious tradition. It analyzes the trajectory of religious actors in Romania after the breakdown of communism in 1989, focusing on two interconnected issues. First, the chapter explores the ways in which churches in Romania perceive themselves and their missions: what are their roles, what values do they promote, and how do they contribute to the welfare of the society? Second, based on survey data, it investigates how the population sees the place and role of religious actors in contemporary Romania. (xsd:string)
