"The impact of beauty, more precisely of subjective perceptions of physical attractiveness, on labour market outcomes has received increasing attention during last years (e.g. Hammermesh and Biddle, 1994; French, 2002; Hammermesh et al., 2002; Mobius and Rosenblat, 2006; Fletcher, 2009). Previous studies for Canada, China and the United States have found that more attractive people earn on average higher wages, which might be reasoned by higher productivity as well as statistical and taste discrimination. This research note contributes new microeconometric evidence from German survey data, which comprise information on subjective attractiveness evaluations by the interviewer and the interviewed person. In addition to mean linear wage effects of physical attractiveness, I analyse nonlinearity of the wage effect as well as heterogeneity of the effect across the wage distribution. Moreover, this research note looks at the effect of attractiveness on employment probabilities." Hauptdatensatz der Analyse ist der ALLBUS 2008.
