  • "Objectives: Quality of life, a key outcome in medicine, economics, or politics, can be evaluated in terms of individual general life satisfaction (GLS). GLS has been shown to be robust over time and correlates with many economic, demographic, and healthrelated factors. We identified long-term-consistent predictors of GLS in Germany. Methods: The German General Social Survey ALLBUS is a biennial nationwide representative survey on the attitudes, behaviour, and social structure of German residents. Since 2010, it includes the GLS one-item scale “How satisfied are you currently - all things considered - with your life?” (ls01). Using robust linear regression, we identified variables from the ALLBUS dataset with significant main effect on ls01 in all survey years since 2010. The following predictors emerged: subjective health status (hs01), individual economic situation (ep03), subjective social class (id02), single- vs. multi-person household (dh01), living in East vs. West Germany (eastwest), age, and sex. Significant two-way interactions were determined via stepwise backward model selection, resulting in the addition of the interaction ep03*id02 to the models. Results: The resulting regression equation is: ls01=0.663ep03+0.473id02+0.273hs01+0.123age20.073dh0120.063eastwest+0.05- 3sex20.163ep033id02 The model explains approx. 35% of ls01 variance. In descending order, individuals with greater ep03, id02, hs01, and age, those living in multi-person households and in West-Germany, and women, report higher ls01, both overall and across survey years 2010 to 2018. In 2021, sex is not a significant factor, confirming previous findings that women lost their GLS advantage during the coronavirus pandemic. The interaction reveals that ep03 loses its influence on ls01 with increasing id02. Conclusions: Current individual economic situation (ep03) and subjective social class (id02) are more dominant predictors for ls01 than subjective health status (hs01) and other common variables in the ALLBUS datasets from 2010 to 2021. Even during the pandemic year 2021, hs01 remains at the third position of ls01 predictors." Daten des ALLBUS aus den Jahren 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018 und 2021 werden in diesem Beitrag als Hauptdtanesätze verwendet. (xsd:string)
