?:abstract
  • "[...] I will first suggest an explanatory model whose basic assumption is that there is a mismatch between reality and perception: there is a widespread cognitive illusion among ordinary people that participation in an election makes a difference. In other words, citizens more or less assume that they can influence the outcome of an election. Furthermore, this factor affects participations in elections. I call this hypothesis the cognitive-illusion proposition. This proposition is part of an explanatory model that is described in the next Section. After presenting this model I will test it with the data of a representative population survey of Germany: the Allbus 1998." (xsd:string)
