?:abstract
  • The increased geriatric population worldwide is a clear sign of the ageing world population, and the ageing world then makes the needs and problems of older adults more visible. A key for older adults to access older adult-oriented services, ensure their economic and social participation, and maintain their functioning may be to adapt the communities and neighbourhoods to their needs and ensure neighbourhood safety, which can also be considered among the existential commitments that the social state offers to older adults. Neighbourhood safety is a multidimensional phenomenon covering housing health, the health and safety of the residential environment, and socioeconomic status. Acknowledged as among the significant factors in improving older adults’ welfare and ensuring ageing in place, neighbourhood safety also occupies a key position in settling the problems of neglect and abuse of older adults. The present chapter aims to explore the impacts of neighbourhood safety, a seminal factor in health behaviours and outcomes, on neglect and abuse of older adults. (xsd:string)
